神奈川県出身。博士(医学)、心療内科医、産業医。
医学生時代、５年間、父の病気のために歌手活動をして生活費を捻出し、
東京慈恵会医科大を卒業。25 歳でフジテレビドラマの主題歌
を歌いメジャーデビューするも、医師になり医療に専念。
東京で女性のためクリニックを開設、厚生労働省健康大使（2007～2017年）
ハーバード大学ヘルスコミュニケーション客員研究員（2008～2010年）
日本医科大学医学教育センター特任教授を経て
現在は昭和女子大学ダイバーシティ機構客員教授。

2013年復興庁｢心の健康サポート事業｣統括責任者として東北各地で

1999 年に音楽活動を再開した。2019 年にジャズアルバム
「RONDO」、2021 年にコロナ禍で音楽と医療をつなげる試み
としてアルバムとトークCDの2枚組「ThenandNow」、2024 年「waltz for Y 」を発表.
音楽と心のケアを一体化した心のサプリトーク＆ライブを企画運営している。
Born in Kanagawa, Japan, Junko Umihara is an M.D. specializing in psychosomatic medicine and occupational health.
Her career seamlessly blends medical expertise and artistic expression, grounded in resilience and humility. During her medical studies, she navigated her father’s illness amid self-funding her education through singing performances and graduated from Jikei University School of Medicine. At 25, she made her major-label debut, singing the theme song for a drama series on Fuji TV, one of Japan’s leading national networks, before ultimately committing herself to medical practice.
She pioneered a women’s mental health clinic in Tokyo (1986-2007), and was appointed as a Health Ambassador for the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (2007-2017). Following her tenure as a Visiting Research Fellow in Health Communication at Harvard University (2008-2010), she established a stress-prevention outpatient clinic at Nippon Medical School, serving as a Specially Appointed Professor (2013-2018).
She returned to her musical roots in 1999, and released the jazz album “RONDO” in 2019, followed by the two-disc set “Then and Now” (a music and spoken word therapeutic album) in 2021, an effort to bridge music and medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, and more recently “Waltz for Y” in 2024.
